Six Sisters’ Stuff Cookbook {Giveaway}

Six Sisters’ Stuff  Cookbook Giveaway

If you follow me on social media, I am constantly saying that my cookies get to have all the fun. This summer I got to make cookies for TSRI’s Sizzling Summer Getaway and Kristen from Six Sisters’ Stuff received a gift box of our cookies. Now I like to consider myself savvy. So of course when you are making cookie gifts for some of the country’s best bloggers cookies, one must include salted butterscotch cookies. I know, it’s shameless. I stuck addictive substances into their gift boxes. Now the disclaimer is, that when I created our Salted Butterscotch cookies I had no idea the affect they would have on people.  I feel really honored that Kristen reached out to us to make a little something special for the Six Sister’s Getaway to Chicago this winter.

Six-Sisters-Cookbook

You know what I love about making cookies, is that inspiration is everywhere. Do you see the red snowflake at the top of their 12 Days of Christmas cookbook? That is where I got the inspiration for the red snowflakes for their cookie sets.

Six-Sisters-Stuff-Cookbook-3

My assistant Cassia, received the Six Sisters’ Stuff Family Cookbook not too long ago. It’s funny just last week she was telling me about some of the awesome recipes she has tried. Cassia’s mom bought the Six Sisters’ Stuff Cookbook for her  birthday in May, and right away she knew it would be one of her favorites. Their recipes are simple and have accessible, non-intimidating ingredients, which is perfect for people like me! Her new favorite recipe, Creamy Chicken Lasagna, is from this cookbook. She has also made the Cheesy Garlic Texas Toast (with the lasagna, as recommended!), Crispy Onion Chicken (easily another new favorite), the amazing Turkey Meatball Subs, and several other things that have all been easy to make and turned out to be delicious.

Six-Sisters-Stuff-Cookbook-2

I decided that my cookies shouldn’t get to have all the fun, you should have some fun too. Kristen offered to giveaway a brand new 12 Days of Christmas Cookbook to a lucky reader of mine! Enter using the rafflecopter widget below to win this amazing cookbook full of all things awesome and fun!

Superhero Cookies for The Brunette Baker

Who doesn’t love Superhero cookies? But superhero cookies and finding out if you have won $200 in cash is even better. Everyone wants a super power.  What’s your super power?  Some people can run a 5 minute mile, some people can finish the CrossFit Angie workout in 11 minutes, and some people can get 1500 on the SAT. Well, I am proud to say I really can’t do any of those things. I would love to be able to run fast but I waddle like a turkey. I would love to finish Angie in under 15 minutes but it takes me about 28 minutes. I would have loved to done well on the SAT, but sadly I did not. Standardized tests are my kryptonite. My husband and I still argue as I think they are stupid.  If you could have superhero cookies designed for you, what would you choose?

superhero cookies

About a month ago I asked Jenny Jack this very question. What type of cookies would you like if I made some for your birthday? She replied, hands down super hero cookies.  Well, I guess with a name like Jenny Jack, what else could she possibly want. Could she have a cooler name? It’s almost like she was meant to be a super hero.  I thought I would end off her birthday giveaway bang. She gets her cookies and some lucky winner gets $200.00 in cash.

superhero cookies

See, I told you. How cool does that double J look? Clark Kent, Steve Rogers, and Jenny Jack. See it fits right in. It’s like she was meant to be apart of the Justice League.

superhero cookies

Now be honest, when you go to blog do you just grab the recipe and dash?  Do you actually read the blog post? If you have never been to Jenny’s blog, here are some of my favorites. Not just because of the recipes, but because Jenny is super funny.

superhero cookies

Right about now I am sure you are thinking, can I just know if I won the cash or not? While it is wonderful that Jenny is getting super hero cookies,  I just want to know if I am $200 richer.

Congratulations Melissa Smith, you are the lucky winner!

The Brunette Baker Birthday Giveaway

The Brunette Baker Giveaway

Do you know Jenny? She is the chief blogger behind The Brunette Baker and she has been celebrating her birthday all month. The month is coming to an end and we all joined forces for a birthday giveaway.  Jenny’s birthday has become the gift that keeps on giving. Cameras, an Ipad and now some cold hard cash. If you are not interested in cash and you just want birthday cake then you should read her latest post. It’s all about a Wacky Cake.

birthday giveaway

What would you do with a $200.00 gift card from the birthday giveaway? Here are a few ideas  you could spend your winnings on from the people sitting around me:

Hayley {my assistant}: she would put it towards her school bills. You have to love the price of college textbooks, right?

Jude {my son}: He would put it in his Aston Martin fund jar. He is quite excited that he now has 0.0012% saved towards his dream car.

Dann {husband}: I wish I could attach the email of his answer. He said cookie cutters. Now I have a whole closet full of cookie cutters and he never plays with them.  He claims that he waits until I go to sleep and he sneaks out.  For anyone who knows my husband, and the fact that he is asleep at eight, would then have to lead to you believe that I am asleep by seven.   Then email number two came in and he said he would take his family out to dinner. This one is my favorite. Once every four months he takes Jude and I out to the Capital Grille for dinner. It has become a fun family tradition. I love it. There are no cell phones and there is no gobble down the food and dash. We sit for about an hour to two hour talking and enjoying each others company.

Me:  I would actually use it to purchase a KopyKake projector to giveaway for hitting 10,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook.

Christmas Cookies and a Cutter Giveaway

Christmas Cookies and a Cutter Giveaway

I can’t believe we are just a couple of days away from Christmas. This year blew by in a flash. We have packaged up the last of our Christmas cookies today and we are finally on vacation for a week.  It’s been an amazing year. We have been a part of so many special occasions and celebrations.  I wanted to share a few of our favorite sets of Christmas cookies that we created this year and one special winner will be the new owner of an awesome set of cookie cutters designed by Cakes by Ximena.

Christmas Cookies

This Christmas I decided it was time to get over some of my cookie making fears. I am truly bad at having to create people and animals. I am so thankful for the reindeer tutorial Krista, from Cookies with Character, created for a guest post over at Sweet Sugarbelle’s. I started seeing the cutest reindeer pop up all over social media sites. Normally my animals come out looking like some GMO experiment gone wrong. I have now come to grips that if it is supposed to look realistic it’s not my kind of cookie. One of my friends called my reindeer a Mooseer a couple of years ago!I decided to let go of my animal cookie making fears and give this funky reindeer a try for some of our Christmas cookies.  I am officially in love with our new fun reindeer which I am sure is going to become a classic.

Christmas Cookies

The other cookies that I try to stay away from are people. I have never created an elf, nor have I ever wanted to. But then Klickitat Street created the cutest cutters. I took a deep breath and said let’s give this a try. Well, I shouldn’t really say us. I gave these cookies to my  awesome assistant, Hayley to create.  Doesn’t she do an awesome job? I love her artistic ability. She is one of those natural artists. I, on the other hand, am one of those “wannabe” artists. I have to work really hard at it.

Christmas Cookies

This set has to be one of my favorite stories. A mom emails me a week before Christmas, and asks if there is any way that she could order a cookie set? Her daughter has asked for cookies for Christmas. We were completely booked, but how could I say no? Most little girls are asking for Barbies or dollhouses but not Isabella. She wanted Christmas cookies.

Nutcracker Suite

The other fun set we were able to create, was for Amaya. She is Juju’s Tutus sweet daughter, who if you are reading this my husband is still waiting for his “pirate tutu”. If you are in need of an amazing tutu for your little girl you must pop over and see Julie’s Facebook page. For her sixth birthday she had a Disney Nutcracker themed birthday tea. Take a moment to pop over to KSL photography to see the beautiful party.

Christmas Cookies

Last but not least, it is time for the giveaway. I love these Helvetica cutters from Cakes by Ximena.  If you are still hunting for a gingerbread cookie recipe, you should pop over to our post from Thanksgiving, where I share our Spicy Orange Gingerbread recipe. Every time I post a picture using these cutters I get a ton of requests of where they can be found. Well one lucky winner will get one this Christmas along with a dozen salted butterscotch cookies.

Christmas Cookies

I want to say thank you to all who take time to read my blog and follow us on the various social media sites. I have had so much fun interacting with you and getting to know some of you. I hope you have a very merry Christmas with your families. Good Luck!

Tangy Grapefruit Yogurt Popsicles {Recipe}

Now back to those tangy grapefruit yogurt popsicles. I decided to think outside the box and be a little daring when I developed this recipe. Normally, I cling to traditional flavors but why not take a chance, right? Have you ever been to Disney World? There is an old famous restaurant called the Brown Derby. They recreated the famous Hollywood restaurant. One of my favorite desserts there is the Grapefruit Cake Recipe.  I have been dying to recreate it for a blog post but have not had a chance. Then I had a wild and crazy idea; maybe I could make popsicle play on the old dessert recipe.

Grapefruit yogurt popsicles

Buttermilk and yogurt  are high in potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, riboflavin and a good source of phosphorus.  Did you know buttermilk is also easier to digest? I decided to combine the nutrient rich benefits of buttermilk alongside the raw milk pro-biotic potential of Greek yogurt to make this healthy treat.

Grapefruit Yogurt Popsicles

Tangy Grapefruit Yogurt Popsicles {Recipe}

  • 5 oz. Greek Yogurt
  • 1 oz. Buttermilk
  • 2 large grapefruits
  • 6 tbsps. organic sugar
  • 3 tbsps. water

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl combine the Greek yogurt and the buttermilk. Set aside.
  2. Juice each of the grapefruits and strain the liquid through a strainer. Twice.
  3. In a small sauce pan heat the grapefruit juice, water and sugar on low until the sugar is all melted. Approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Do not let the liquid boil.  Remove from heat and allow it to cool.
  5. Combine the grapefruit juice mixture and the dairy mixture with a whisk, till it is completely smooth.
  6. Fill each popsicle mold with the mixture. Fills approximate 8 to 10 popsicles depending on the size.
  7. Freeze for 6 hours and enjoy!

Grapefruit Yogurt Popsicles

I don’t know about you but I have had trouble with popsicle molds. A lot of times my popsicles get stuck or break as we are trying to get them out of the mold. We tried warm water and letting the popsicles sit, but nothing worked.  The other day when I was at Sur La Table, I saw a product that looked a little bit intriguing.  A company named Mastrad developed a popsicle mold with a silicone holder that is easy and quick to remove. The other feature that I love is the domed cup. The drips end up in the cup and not on your clothes. Finally a popsicle mold that doesn’t break the popsicle!

Grapefruit Yogurt Popsicles

Simple peel off the silicon liner and you are good go! Enjoy and don’t forget to enter the dairy recipe contest! I can’t wait to see the cool summer recipes that you are cooking up.

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Soiree and a Giveaway!

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Soiree and Cupcake Couture Blog Party Giveaway!

Welcome to my vanilla bean cupcake soiree.  There is just something about a delicious vanilla bean cupcake.  It is a simple dessert. Not too heavy and not overly sweet. I thought it would make the perfect cupcake for a party set in Paris. Pack your bags and come with me for the Bella Cupcake Couture’s Blog Hop Party! Twenty one bloggers  have banded together to share a delicious cupcake recipe along with how to dress up your cupcakes in style using Bella Cupcake Couture’s awesome cupcake wrappers.

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Soiree PM

I was so excited when my cupcake wrappers arrived in the mail. Now it was time to create a party around black and white stripes. All around the web you see Parisian themed parties popping up left and right. I want to show you an inexpensive way to create Paris themed party without going bankrupt.

First, we will need to make some royal icing transfers.  I learned how to make royal icing transfer from a great blog post by Jennifer, over at Not Your Momma’s Cookie. {Tutorial Link} No need to re-invent the wheel. I Head over to her blog for step-by-step instructions.  I found a picture of a Fleur-de-lis and the Eiffel Tower. I copy and pasted them to make a nice worksheet. Print out the worksheet and place in a page protector that has been cleaned. Pipe your royal icing directly on to the sheet and allow it to dry. Once they are dry you can slide them off the page projector and place on the cupcakes. They great thing about royal icing transfers is that they can be made ahead of time and stored in a sealed container.

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Soiree RI

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Recipe

  • 1 1/4 Cup Unbleached Flour
  • 1 1/2  Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Fine Sugar {C&H Sugar Organic}
  • 6 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1 large egg and 1 egg white (at room temperature)
  • 2 Teaspoons of  Vanilla Bean Paste
  • 1/2 Cup whole milk {at room temperature}

Yields: 12 Standard Cupcakes

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift together dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl. In separate bowl beat sugars and butter on medium till light and fluffy. Approximately 2 minutes. Add egg and vanilla, beat till combined. Add flour mixture in 3 additions alternating with buttermilk. Don’t over beat. Scrape down the side of the bowl and the bottom area. Beat on high speed for 30 seconds. This helps the batter develop.

Use an ice cream scoop to divide the batter evenly among the baking cups. Fill approximately 3/4ths full. Bake for 20-24 minutes or till the toothpick comes out clean. Let cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes then release from the pan and transfer to a baking rack.

Classic Vanilla Buttercream

  • 4 oz. Unsalted Softened Butter (about 20 minutes out of the refrigerator)
  • 3 tbsps. organic shortening
  • 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • ¼ Teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Half and Half + 1 Teas.
  • 2 Teas. Pure Vanilla Bean Paste

Directions:

In a stand mixer, fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter & salt for about 2 minutes and then add half of the powdered sugar and the half and half to the butter and beat again until combined. Scrape down the bowl.  Add the rest of the powdered sugar, the vanilla,  and beat until combined.  Scrape down the bowl again.  Beat on high speed for 5-6 minutes or until the frosting is fluffy.  Place in a pastry bag with a 1M tip. Pipe a classic swirl and top with nonpareils.

Vanilla Bean Cupcake Soiree PM

One of the challenges we were given was to use things we already owned to create our party theme.  My table set up was simple. I decided to use our hutch since it has that “Parisian” vintage feel. I took my china and cups and stacked them like I imagine you would see in a french cafe.  I turned milk bottles upside down for the cupcakes in the back.   I decided to use espresso beans and sugar cubes as accents around the cupcakes.

Vonny Bags Giveaway

Vonny Bags Giveaway

I’m teaming up with Around My Family Table and some other great bloggers to bring you this fabulous giveaway from Vonny Bags.  I don’t know if you noticed my nifty new button over on the right hand menu bar but I am now contributor over at Around My Family Table.  I have admired Wendy and her blog for so long. I am so excited to contribute to her beautiful blog.

Vonny launched her line of carriers and totes in 2009.  Her line includes beautiful pie carriers, egg carriers, casserole carriers, and several tote bags.  All are made with a durable (and washable) laminate canvas that is easy to clean!  I am quite smitten with her pie totes which can also double as a cute way to transport cookies.

Vonny Bags

I love this excerpt from their website.  Vonny products bring Lagniappe – Cajun French for “a little something extra” – into the lives of their owners.  Vonny is for a life that is both conscious and picturesque in the face of the challenges of modern, urban existence. Combining life’s most practical considerations – healthy habits, financial well-being, environmental sustainability – with a passion for patterns and colors that delight and inspire, the creators of Vonny started with a personal understanding of what individuals like themselves and their friends wanted and needed to help navigate the daily routine. Vonny Bags are designed to accompany their owners anywhere they might travel, from the gym to the market to the beach or around the world, with anything from a healthy lunch to a bottle of wine to a baby in tow.  From this sensibility the Vonny Bag line was born; sensible, essential products that reflect a love for that little something extra that makes life worth living.
Vonny Bags

We are giving away a matching set today…the egg carrier and casserole tote, both in the sweet tea print (a $112 value).  The deviled egg carrier has a non- slip surface, holds 11 eggs (22 halves), and comes with the egg tray.  The casserole tote fits a standard 9×13 inch casserole pan and has a pocket for holding serving utensils.

You can find her products online in her shop, a small selection on Amazon, and in stores around the country.

Trick or Treat Fan Giveaway

Trick or Treat Fan Giveaway

This is not a trick. Let me repeat this is not a trick. We are offering some of our favorite sweet treats today in the giveaway. Samantha and I hit 3,500 Facebook fans together and decided it was time to throw a party. Do you know Samantha? She is the most talented cookie maker over at Flour-de-Lis. We met over chocolate. I can’t think of a better way to meet.  She makes the most amazing chocolate cookies! My family is slightly addicted to them.  You can read all about our chocolate swap right here.  Before we get to the loot, I have to take a moment to say thanks. When I started this journey a year ago I would have never imagined I would be where I am today. I have learned so much and I have made so many amazing friends along the way. Thank you to everyone who stops by the blog to read and follows my adventures on Facebook. Since you guys are all so sweet we are giving double the chance to win; on my blog and over at Flour-de-Lis.  Let’s start where it all began.

Many already know her, but for those who don’t I have to introduce you to Bridget Edwards from Bake at 350. When I first got suckered into making decorated cookies, I was clueless. Seriously, clueless. Bridget’s tutorial’s and University of Cookie videos helped me get started.  I poured over her blog,  then I rolled up my sleeves and started making cookies.  I am so excited that her new book just came out and the winner will get a signed copy.

Now that you have your cookie decorating book, you need some cookie cutters. I used to be in awe when I would hear different cookie makers say how many cookie cutters that they own. I would think, who needs that many? Well needless to say I am now apart of the guilty bunch. We have bins stacked from floor to ceiling these days with cookie cutters. My all time favorite cutter is my fancy plaque cutter from CopperGifts.com. Check out some of the fun things we have made with our plaque cutter over the past year. I have to say, not only does Coppergifts.com make wonderful, quality cutters, their service is impeccable! There has been more than one occasion where I have reached out to Beth in panic needing a certain cutter, asap. Beth, and the wonderful team at Coppergifts is generously offering a $25 gift card, so that you can pick out some cutters for yourself. I warn you: this shop is habit-forming!

Make no mistake about it, baking is a super power. Now I have a question?  If there was a baking Justice League, who would be your picks? Whether you are wielding ninja spatulas making cakes or a handy-dandy rolling-pin, it takes a special {my husband often says, that is not special, that is crazy} person to make these crazy edible creations. I love Captain Leisure t-shirts. When I saw this t-shirt, I knew it was a must have. But do you know whose idea it was? It was Samantha’s. {Told you she was brilliant}.

Now the question is do you have straight or curly hair. I have crazy curls, so my giveaway set helps achieve beautiful curly locks instead of a frizzy mess. Now if you have straight hair, head over to Samantha’s blog she has just the set for you!
